The 4XEM IPNV16 Remote Monitoring Software which is included with several 4XEM IP Network Cameras and IP Network Video Servers, allows you to backup recorded data for the purpose of data redundancy. This article will help you to understand how to back up your recorded data through the IPNV16 software.
Once you have configured your cameras or video servers to display within the IPNV16 software and have recorded data present, you are then able to configure the backup feature of the software. The backup configuration settings are located under the Global Settings submenu found under the Configuration menu. Figure 1 shows how to access the Global Settings page.

Once you have the Global Settings page displayed you will then be able to choose which camera or video server's recorded data to backup. Please note that selecting a camera or video server that has no recorded data will result in the backup process failing to complete. A device in the backup list that does not have any recorded data will display a "No Data" entry next to the device name. Also on the Global Settings page, you will find the option to select where the recorded data will be backed up to. With this you have the option to select the size for each backup time period. Figure 2 shows the Global Settings page.

Once you have selected the devices you wish to back up the recorded data for and have selected the backup directory, you may then click on the OK button. This will bring you back to the main screen for the IPNV16 software. You may now proceed to click on the Configuration button found at the top right. The option to backup the recorded data for your cameras and video servers should now be available to you. You may proceed to click on the Backup option. Figure 3 shows the Backup option as found under the Configuration menu.

Once the recorded data has been backed up you may then review the directory to which the backed up data has been stored. At this point you are able to move the backed up data to an external storage medium such as a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Figure 4 shows an example of a directory containing the recorded data that was involved in the backup process.

To recover the data that was backed up you will need to open the Playback portion of the IPNV16 Remote Monitoring Software. Once the Playback portion of the software has come up onscreen you will then need to click on the configuration button found in the lower right corner. The Settings configuration window for the Playback portion of the software should now be displayed onscreen. You will then need to change the Database Location to point to the location to which the backed up data has been stored. Figure 5 found below shows an example of the Settings configuration screen through the Playback portion of the IPNV16 software.
